The *Elkay Strainer 55996C* is located at the water inlet of the drinking fountain. The strainer collects and traps any sediment that may damage the valve or other components of the drinking fountain. It fits Elkay and Halsey Taylor drinking fountains.

Description / Elkay 55996C Strainer
Since the strainer helps prevent damage, it is a good idea to replace the strainer as preventative maintenance whenever you are repairing a drinking fountain.
This in-line strainer also replaces the Y-strainer.
The inlet is 3/8" and the outlet is 1/4".
The strainer uses press-in fittings..

Probably a good idea to change

My water fountain strainer was almost completely clogged since we have such hard water here. This strainer fit right in place of the old one.
